The Geneva seven-colour photometric system
New calibrations of the Geneva seven-color (U, B, V, B1, B2, V1, G)photometric system are presented, and the use of the 13,000-star catalogof stellar colors, indices and multi-color parameters measured by thesystem since its introduction in 1959 is discussed. Results indicatingthe multi-color parameters derived from linear combinations of spectralindices to be reddening-free for almost all stellar spectral types arepresented, and relations between synthetic colors, calculated fromaccurately defined passband transmission functions, and stellar modelparameters are considered. The use of photometric star boxes for theanalysis of the surface temperature and gravity, chemical composition, duplicity, rotation, magnetic field and interstellar extinction ofobserved stars and theoretical models is examined, with considerationgiven to the use of multicolor parameters in box formation, andintrinsic colors and multicolor parameters obtained for stars of variousspectral types are presented. Finally, results of seven-color photometryof B stars, hot Ap stars, A-F stars, Am and Ap stars, and G, K and Mstars are presented.
