Spectral Classification of Stars in A Supplement to the Bright Star Catalogue
MK spectral types are given for about 584 stars in A Supplement to theBright Star Catalogue. These are compared with Hipparcos parallaxes tocheck the reliability of those classifications. The estimated errors are+/-1.2 subtypes, and 10% of the luminosity classes may be wrong.

APM Z >=4 QSO Survey: Spectra and Intervening Absorption Systems
The APM multicolor survey for bright z > 4 objects, covering 2500deg^2^ of sky to m_r_ ~ 19, resulted in the discovery of 31 quasars withz ~> 4. High signal-to-noise optical spectrophotometry at 5 Aresolution has been obtained for the 28 quasars easily accessible fromthe northern hemisphere. These spectra have been surveyed to create newsamples of high-redshift Lyman-limit systems, damped Lyαabsorbers, and metal absorption systems (e.g., C IV and Mg II). In thispaper we present the spectra, together with line lists of the detectedabsorption systems. The QSOs display a wide variety of emission- andabsorption-line characteristics, with five exhibiting broad absorptionlines and one with extremely strong emission lines (BR 2248 - 1242).Eleven candidate damped Lyα absorption systems have beenidentified covering the redshift range 2.8 <= z <= 4.4 (eight withz > 3.5). An analysis of the measured redshifts of thehigh-ionization emission lines with the low-ionization lines shows themto be blueshifted by 430 +/- 60 km s^-1^. In a previous paper (byStorrie-Lombardi et al.) we discussed the redshift evolution of theLyman limit systems cataloged here. In subsequent papers we will discussthe properties of the Lyα forest absorbers and the redshift andcolumn density evolution of the damped Lyα absorbers.

Radial-velocity measurements. V - Ground support of the HIPPARCOS satellite observation program
The paper presents data on 1070 radial velocity measurements of starsdistributed in 39 fields measuring 4 deg x 4 deg. The PPO series ofFehrenbach et al. (1987) and Duflot et al. (1990) is continued using theFehrenbach objective prism method.

Radial velocities for early type stars in six galactic regions
Coudespectroscopy has been carried out for 353 stars of spectral typesB0-A0 and V magnitudes between 6.5 and 10.8 m, selected in six regions(three northern and three southern) close to the galactic plane at thegalactic longitudes 135, 175, 315 and 350 deg. The radial velocitieswere obtained by cross-correlating each spectrogram with a referencespectrogram giving an internal error of 1.4 km/s.
