Spectral Classification of Stars in A Supplement to the Bright Star Catalogue
MK spectral types are given for about 584 stars in A Supplement to theBright Star Catalogue. These are compared with Hipparcos parallaxes tocheck the reliability of those classifications. The estimated errors are+/-1.2 subtypes, and 10% of the luminosity classes may be wrong.

Speckle Interferometry of New and Problem Hipparcos Binaries. II. Observations Obtained in 1998-1999 from McDonald Observatory
The Hipparcos satellite made measurements of over 9734 known doublestars, 3406 new double stars, and 11,687 unresolved but possible doublestars. The high angular resolution afforded by speckle interferometrymakes it an efficient means to confirm these systems from the ground,which were first discovered from space. Because of its coverage of adifferent region of angular separation-magnitude difference(ρ-Δm) space, speckle interferometry also holds promise toascertain the duplicity of the unresolved Hipparcos ``problem'' stars.Presented are observations of 116 new Hipparcos double stars and 469Hipparcos ``problem stars,'' as well as 238 measures of other doublestars and 246 other high-quality nondetections. Included in these areobservations of double stars listed in the Tycho-2 Catalogue andpossible grid stars for the Space Interferometry Mission.

FAUST Observations of Ultraviolet Sources toward the Virgo Cluster
We analyze three UV images covering a ~100 square degree field towardthe Virgo cluster, obtained by the FAUST space experiment. We detect 191sources to a signal-to-noise ratio of 4.4 and identify 94% of them. Mostsources have optical counterparts in existing catalogs, and about halfare identified as galaxies. Some sources with no listed counterpart wereobserved at the Wise Observatory. We present the results oflow-resolution visible spectrophotometry and discuss the foreground 101stellar sources and the 76 detected galaxies, both in the cluster and inthe foreground or background. We derive conclusions on star formationproperties of galaxies and on the total UV flux from discrete anddiffuse sources in the cluster. We test for the presence of intraclusterdust, determine the clustering properties of UV emitting galaxies, andderive the UV luminosity function of Virgo galaxies.

We publish 1879 radial velocities of stars distributed in 105 fields of4^{\circ} \times 4^{\circ}. Broadband Polarimetry of Supernovae: SN 1994D, SN 1994Y, SN 1994ae, SN 1995D, and SN 1995H
We have made polarimetric observations of three Type Ia supernovae (SNIa's) and two Type II supernovae (SN II's). No significant polarizationwas detected for any of the SN Ia's down to the level of 0.2%, whilepolarization of order 1.0% was detected for the two SN II's 1994Y and1995H. A catalog of all the supernovae with polarization data iscompiled that shows a distinct trend that all the five SN II's withsufficient polarimetric data show polarizations at about 1%, while noneof the nine SN Ia's in the sample show intrinsic polarization. Thissystematic difference in polarization of supernovae, if confirmed,raises many interesting questions concerning the mechanisms leading tosupernova explosions. Our observations enhance the use of SN Ia's astools for determining the distance scale through various techniques butsuggest that one must be very cautious in utilizing Type II for distancedeterminations. However, we caution that the link between theasphericity of a supernova and the measured "intrinsic" polarization iscomplicated by reflected light from the circumstellar material and theintervening interstellar material, the so-called light echo. This effectmay contribute more Substantially to SN II's than to SN Ia's. The tightlimits on polarization of SN Ia's may constrain, progenitor models withextensive scattering nebulae such as symbiotic stars and other systemsof extensive mass loss.

A catalog of far-ultraviolet point sources detected with the fast FAUST Telescope on ATLAS-1
We list the photometric measurements of point sources made by the FarUltraviolet Space Telescope (FAUST) when it flew on the ATLAS-1 spaceshuttle mission. The list contains 4698 Galactic and extragalacticobjects detected in 22 wide-field images of the sky. At the locationssurveyed, this catalog reaches a limiting magnitude approximately afactor of 10 fainter than the previous UV all-sky survey, TDl. Thecatalog limit is approximately 1 x 10-14 ergs A sq cm/s,although it is not complete to this level. We list for each object theposition, FUV flux, the error in flux, and where possible anidentification from catalogs of nearby stars and galaxies. Thesecatalogs include the Michigan HD (MHD) and HD, SAO, the HIPPARCOS InputCatalog, the Position and Proper Motion Catalog, the TD1 Catalog, theMcCook and Sion Catalog of white dwarfs, and the RC3 Catalog ofGalaxies. We identify 2239 FAUST sources with objects in the stellarcatalogs and 172 with galaxies in the RC3 catalog. We estimate thenumber of sources with incorrect identifications to be less than 2%.

Vacuum ultraviolet imagery of the Virgo cluster region
The results are reported of an experiment using the UV imager aboard anattitude-controlled S520 type sounding rocket. The total UV fluxes ofgalaxies in the Virgo Cluster as well as the flux level of the diffuseUV background around the cluster were measured. The data on NGC 4486 andNGC 4472 confirm the variation in the degree of the 'turnup' below 200nm in the energy spectrum of the total light of elliptical galaxies. Attwo-color diagram of galaxies of visual/near-UV/vacuum UV indicates thatcolors of spiral galaxies are distributed within a strip andwell-correlated with the morphological type, while elliptical galaxiesare located differently from spiral galaxies.

Miscellaneous spectroscopic notes
Results of slit-spectrograph observations are reported for approximately260 stars. The data presented range from recognition of many new Ap, Am,and other unusual stars to H-alpha observations of early-typesupergiants and Be stars. The material discussed was obtained over thepast 40 years at a number of U.S. observatories and at the DominionAstrophysical Observatory in Victoria, B.C.
