Absolute proper motions of open clusters. I. Observational data
Mean proper motions and parallaxes of 205 open clusters were determinedfrom their member stars found in the Hipparcos Catalogue. 360 clusterswere searched for possible members, excluding nearby clusters withdistances D < 200 pc. Members were selected using ground basedinformation (photometry, radial velocity, proper motion, distance fromthe cluster centre) and information provided by Hipparcos (propermotion, parallax). Altogether 630 certain and 100 possible members werefound. A comparison of the Hipparcos parallaxes with photometricdistances of open clusters shows good agreement. The Hipparcos dataconfirm or reject the membership of several Cepheids in the studiedclusters. Tables 1 and 2 are only available in electronic form at theCDS via anonymous ftp to cdsarc.u-strasbg.fr (130.79.128.5) or viahttp://cdsweb.u-strasbg.fr/Abstract.html

The moderately young open cluster NGC 2353
New photoelectric UBV photometry for 46 stars and MK spectral types for18 stars in the field of NGC 2353 confirm a cluster distance of 1.2 + or- 0.08 kpc and foreground extinction of E(B-V) = 0.116 + or - 0.007 witha variable extinction of about 0.041. A cluster age of about 7.6 millionyr is found, a value which is older than previous determinations andplaces in question the membership of HD 55879 (09 II-III), the brighteststar in the cluster field. The color-magnitude diagram (CMD) alsosuggests a binary frequency of more than one-third and the presence of abackground group of distant, heavily reddened B stars. Analysis of thephotometric and spectroscopic data gives a total of 65 members with 50to B = 15.0 or less. In comparison, star counts suggest 59 + or - 17 (B= 15.0 or less) and 229 + or - 52 (B = 21.0 or less) members; these areconcentrated into an inner radius of about 5 arcmin but include membersout to a halo radius of about 10 arcmin.
