Positional reference stars in the Magellanic Clouds
The equatorial coordinates are determined of 926 stars (mainly ofgalactic origin) in the direction of the Magellanic Clouds at the meanepoch T = 1978.4 with an overall accuracy characterized by the meanvalues of the O-C coordinates, Sa = 0.35 arcsec and Sd = 0.38 arcsec, calculated from the coordinates of the Perth reference stars. Thesevalues are larger than the accuracy expected for primary standard stars. They allow the new positions to be considered as those of reliablesecondary standard stars. The published positions correspond to anunquestionable improvement of the quality of the coordinates provided inthe current catalogs. This study represents an 'astrometric step' in thestarting of a 'Durchmusterung' of the Magellanic Clouds organized by deBoer (1988, 1989).

Estimation of stellar intrinsic colours, distances and colour excesses based on the Stromgren and H-beta photometry of 804 B, A, and F stars in 10 Selected Areas

Four-colour UVBY and H-beta photometry of all A and F stars brighter than MPG of about 11.0 mag in 4 Selected Areas at intermediate galactic latitudes
As a second part of an investigation of the distribution of interstellardust in the solar vicinity, uvby-beta photometry has been obtained for260 stars of spectral types A and F, and brighter than mpg of11.0 mag in four Kapteyn's Selected Areas. The observed areas are: SA95, SA 120, SA 168, and SA 200. They are centered at intermediategalactic latitudes, in the range from b of about -38 deg to -42 deg. From the observed (b-y) versus beta diagrams it can be seen that starsin SA 95 are strongly affected by reddening, while the other areas showvery little absorption.

UBV photometry of eclipsing binaries in the SMC
UBV photoelectric observations are presented for the SMC eclipsingbinaries HV 1620 and HV 1669. The observations are corrected forcrowding using data obtained from CCD frames of the surrounding fields. The light curves are solved with the Wilson-Devinney (1971) programusing a systematic grid-search technique. Preliminary absolutedimensions are computed and the evolutionary status of both systemsdiscussed. It is noted that none of the five systems in the MagellanicClouds that have been studied in detail appear to be in contact.

Observations and analysis of CF TUC
Recent UBV photometry of the RS CVn binary CF Tuc is discussed andanalyzed. Combining the results with previously published spectroscopy, radii of 1.63 solar radii for the hotter (6000 K) and 3.11 solar radiifor the cooler (4500 K) component are found; both stars having a mass ofabout 1.3 solar masses. The distance to the system is put at 86 + or -15 pc. Though the photometric data is incomplete in the coverage of someregions out of the minima, there is no significant evidence of the'wave-type distortions' - a known hallmark of RS CVn stars - and thedata can be modeled by a standard eclipsing binary system in which thestatistical test of goodness-of-fit produces quite acceptable values forreasonable estimates of observational accuracy.

UBV(RI)c photometry for CaII emission stars. II - Observations at Mt. John University Observatory and at Mt. Stromlo
UBV(RI)c data are given for 17 stars with strong Ca II H and K emission.Techniques of observation and reduction are described briefly.
