CCD photometric search for peculiar stars in open clusters. III. NGC 2439, NGC 3960, NGC 6134, NGC 6192 and NGC 6451
In total, more than 550 objects within the fields of five open clusterswere investigated in order to find classical chemically peculiar stars.One bona-fide CP candidate was detected in each of the open clusters NGC3960, NGC 6192 and NGC 6451. All three objects seem to be members of thecorresponding cluster, taking the results from our photometry as well asfrom the literature. For NGC 6192 and NGC 6451 we found widely differentinterstellar reddening values and therefore distances and ages in theliterature. From an analysis of published Johnson UBVRI photometry, wewere able to rule out a rather old age for NGC 6451. This is alsosupported by the finding of one peculiar object in this cluster withspectral type of about A2. Five variable objects within the field of NGC6134 were detected. The variability exceeds 10 times (or typically 0.03mag) the standard deviation of the weighted individual measurements. Butsince our observations were obtained mostly within one hour (typicalintegration times of five minutes per filter) on several nights within45 days, no light curves could be derived. For this cluster, some Amcandidates were reported for which we were not able to detect asignificant positive Delta a-value. Based on observations at ESO-LaSilla and\ UTSO-Las Campanas.

The association surrounding NGC 2439
The structure of the field surrounding the Galactic cluster NGC 2439 isstudied utilizing uvbybeta photometry of bright OB stars. We collate allphotometric and kinematic data available to identify possible groupings.The stars of our sample show a large scatter in their distances, radialvelocities, proper motions and reddenings. We conclude that they do notbelong to a single stellar association. We find evidence of theexistence of three coherent structures at distances of 370 pc, 1 kpc,and 2.6-3.2 kpc. The high stellar density toward NGC 2439 is very likelydue to a decreased absorption in this direction, which poses some doubton the reality of the cluster. A comprehensive uvbybeta study of NGC2439 is required to clarify its nature. The spatial distribution of thestars and their reddening are used to characterise the spatialdistribution of the visual extinction in the region. Absolute proper motions of open clusters. I. Observational data
Mean proper motions and parallaxes of 205 open clusters were determinedfrom their member stars found in the Hipparcos Catalogue. 360 clusterswere searched for possible members, excluding nearby clusters withdistances D < 200 pc. Members were selected using ground basedinformation (photometry, radial velocity, proper motion, distance fromthe cluster centre) and information provided by Hipparcos (propermotion, parallax). Altogether 630 certain and 100 possible members werefound. A comparison of the Hipparcos parallaxes with photometricdistances of open clusters shows good agreement. The Hipparcos dataconfirm or reject the membership of several Cepheids in the studiedclusters. UBV beta Database for Case-Hamburg Northern and Southern Luminous Stars
A database of photoelectric UBV beta photometry for stars listed in theCase-Hamburg northern and southern Milky Way luminous stars surveys hasbeen compiled from the original research literature. Consisting of over16,000 observations of some 7300 stars from over 500 sources, thisdatabase constitutes the most complete compilation of such photometryavailable for intrinsically luminous stars around the Galactic plane.Over 5000 stars listed in the Case-Hamburg surveys still lackfundamental photometric data.

Catalogue of blue stragglers in open clusters.
An extensive survey of blue straggler candidates in galactic openclusters of both hemispheres is presented. The blue stragglers wereselected considering their positions in the cluster colour-magnitudediagrams.They were categorized according to the accuracy of thephotometric measurements and membership probabilities. An amount of 959blue straggler candidates in 390 open clusters of all ages wereidentified and classified. A set of basic data is given for everycluster and blue straggler. The information is arranged in the form of acatalogue. Blue stragglers are found in clusters of all ages. Thepercentage of clusters with blue stragglers generally grows with age andrichness of the clusters. The mean ratio of the number of bluestragglers to the number of cluster main sequence stars is approximatelyconstant up to a cluster age of about 10^8.6^ yr and rises for olderclusters. In general, the blue stragglers show a remarkable degree ofcentral concentration.

CCD observations in 7 open clusters - NGC2421, NGC2439, NGC2489, NGC2567, NGC2627, NGC2658 and NGC2910
Photometric UBVIc data are presented for the open clusters NGC2439,NGC2489, NGC2567, NGC2627, NGC2658, and NGC2910. From a combination ofthe new BVIc technique and the analysis of the CMDs, the color excessE(B-V), the distance modulus, and approximate age are given for theseclusters and NGC2421.

Pseudocepheids. I - R Puppis, HR 4441, HR 4511, and AI CMI
Four PC stars which are all thought to be high-mass objects, areconsidered. It is noted that R Pup and HR 4441 are apparentlyvery-high-luminosity stars for which the photometric indices areuncomplicated by photometrically unresolved companions or circumstellarmaterial. HR 4511 is seen as illustrating the effect of a close,early-type companion, and it is believed that the photometry of AI CMimay be strongly affected by circumstellar material. On the basis ofobservations of nonvariable stars covering the magnitude rangerepresented, a mean dispersion of 0.005 mag is expected in all colorindices.

Stellar content of young open clusters. I - Blue stragglers. II - Be stars
The properties of the blue stragglers and Be stars found in openclusters younger than the Hyades are examined. Thirty-nine bluestragglers were detected at the left of the upper main sequence in thecolor-magnitude diagrams of 75 open clusters, with the frequency ofdetection noted to increase with cluster age. About half of thestragglers show peculiar abundance characteristics corresponding tospectral classes Am, Ap, Bp, Be and Of. The spectroscopic andphotometric behavior of the blue stragglers is, however, identical withthat of main sequence stars of the same type and peculiarity. It issuggested that the blue stragglers with peculiar spectroscopiccharacteristics may result from the evolution, perhapsquasi-homogeneous, of abnormal stars. Analysis of the absolutemagnitudes and dereddened colors calculated for 94 Be stars in 34 openclusters indicates the distribution to peak at spectral types B1-B2 andB7-B8, and in clusters with turn-up types at B1-B2. Cluster Be starsoccupy the whole main sequence band, and evolutionary states from nearlyunevolved to fully evolved. They may be classified according to theirposition on the color-magnitude diagram, with the distinctions betweenclasses also related to spectroscopic differences.

VY Carinae, S Normae, and photometric luminosities for bright giants and supergiants of types G and K
Observations in the modified Stromgren system of the Cepheids VY Carinaeand S Normae with their associated early-type stars are discussed. Theluminosities of the Cepheids, together with the bright giants R Puppis,HR 2834, HR 4180, and HDE 269953 in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC),are used for calibration of photometric luminosities.
