Revisiting the region of the open cluster NGC 5606
We present polarimetric observations in the UBVRI bands corresponding to54 stars located in the direction of NGC 5606. Our intention is toanalyze the dust characteristics between the Sun and the cluster, aswell as to confirm doubtful memberships using polarimetric tools. Wealso want to determine if a group of 11 B and A stars identified in thepast by Vázquez & Feinstein (1991, A&AS, 87, 383) infront of NGC 5606 has any physical entity. From polarimetric data wehave found at least two dust layers along the line of sight to the opencluster. The observations show that both dust layers have their localmagnetic field with an orientation which is close to the direction ofthe Galactic Plane (θ = 70.0 °), but the direction of thepolarimetric vector for the members of the cluster seems to be lowerthan this value. NGC 5606 can be polarimetricallycharacterized with P_max = 2.97% and θv = 63.5 °.The internal dispersion of the polarization values for the members ofNGC 5606 seems to be compatible with intracluster dust. We were able toadd four possible new members to the list of stars in NGC 5606, and toreject others accepted as members in past investigations; and weidentified 17 (out of the 54 observed stars) with intrinsic polarizationin their light. The group of late B- and A-type stars could bephysically related, with characteristics of an open cluster ofintermediate age (between 0.79 and 1. × 108 yr). Forthis group we obtained representative values of P = 2.12% andθv = 70.0 °. The new cluster, which we haveprovisionally named Anon (La Plata 1), extends from NE to SW across theface of NGC 5606 covering about 10'. The fitting procedure ofSchmidt-Kaler's ZAMS (1982, in Landolt/Bornstein, Neue Series VI/2b) wasused to derive the distance to the group, obtaining a distance modulusof Vo - Mv = 9.90 (649 pc from the Sun). The meancolor excess associated with the small group is EB-V = 0.27± 0.08 mag and the dust distribution shows great variabilityacross its face. We think that the small open cluster has goneundetected due to the lack of bright member stars in it.Based on observations obtained at Complejo Astronómico ElLeoncito, operated under agreement between the Consejo Nacional deInvestigaciones Científicas y Técnicas de laRepública Argentina and the Universities of La Plata,Córdoba, and San Juan. Absolute proper motions of open clusters. I. Observational data
Mean proper motions and parallaxes of 205 open clusters were determinedfrom their member stars found in the Hipparcos Catalogue. 360 clusterswere searched for possible members, excluding nearby clusters withdistances D < 200 pc. Members were selected using ground basedinformation (photometry, radial velocity, proper motion, distance fromthe cluster centre) and information provided by Hipparcos (propermotion, parallax). Altogether 630 certain and 100 possible members werefound. A comparison of the Hipparcos parallaxes with photometricdistances of open clusters shows good agreement. The Hipparcos dataconfirm or reject the membership of several Cepheids in the studiedclusters. Tables 1 and 2 are only available in electronic form at theCDS via anonymous ftp to cdsarc.u-strasbg.fr (130.79.128.5) or viahttp://cdsweb.u-strasbg.fr/Abstract.html

UBV beta Database for Case-Hamburg Northern and Southern Luminous Stars
A database of photoelectric UBV beta photometry for stars listed in theCase-Hamburg northern and southern Milky Way luminous stars surveys hasbeen compiled from the original research literature. Consisting of over16,000 observations of some 7300 stars from over 500 sources, thisdatabase constitutes the most complete compilation of such photometryavailable for intrinsically luminous stars around the Galactic plane.Over 5000 stars listed in the Case-Hamburg surveys still lackfundamental photometric data.

H-beta Photometry of Southern Luminous Stars
H-beta photometry for 116 stars listed in Stephenson and Sanduleak's(1971) catalog of _Luminous Stars in the Southern Milky Way_ isreported. The vast majority of these objects are O and B-type stars; afew are A, F, or Wolf-Rayet stars. A systematic difference of on theorder of 30 mmag between the present results and those of otherinvestigators is noted. (SECTION: Stars)

A spectroscopic database for Stephenson-Sanduleak Southern Luminous Stars
A database of published spectral classifications for objects in theStepenson-Sanduleak Luminous Stars in the Southern Milky Way catalog hasbeen compiled from the literature. A total of 6182 classifications for2562 stars from 139 sources are incorporated.

Deep photometry in the core of the open cluster NGC 5606
The center of the open cluster NGC 5606 has been re-observed with broadband UBVRI CCD photometry. Up to V = 18.5 likely cluster members arefound underlining a sharp but not so populated cluster sequence. Withthis new photometry the cluster distance modulus is stated inV_0_-M_v_=11.90 (d=2400pc). The mean colour excess reaches the value=0.51. The age of the cluster from the isochrone fittingis between 6.3x10^6^ and 7x10^6^ y. Surprisingly enough there are notmany stars found below V=15.5 in spite of the fact that we are observingthe very core of the cluster. This lack of faint cluster stars producesin turn a flat slope for the cluster mass spectrum. In this respect ourcomputation yields x=1.09 far enough of x=1.35 which is assumed to bethe slope characterizing the mass spectrum of galactic stars.

The young open cluster NGC 5606
The open cluster NGC 5606 has been investigated using broad band UBVRIphotoelectric photometry. The cluster is small and faint with a few starmemberships. A mean color excess of 0.51 was found in the clusterregion, and the fitting method yields a distance modulus of V0 - MV =11.60. From the cluster 'turn-off' point and the fitting of an isochronewith core overshooting, an age of (6.5 + or - 1.5) x 10 to the 6th yrwas obtained for NGC 5606

Radial velocities for 28 southern young open clusters
Radial velocities for 83 OB-stars in 28 southern young open clusters arepresented. The internal and external accuracy of the data is in goodagreement with results obtained by Ardeberg and Maurice (1977) with thesame equipment. From a comparison with radial velocities existing in theliterature no systematic radial-velocity differences for stars in commonare found.
